What is the Vital-Online eLearning Center?

The Vital-Online eLearning Center is your Online learning resource center, delivering instruction and information interactively over the Internet. In addition to its facilities for self-paced and instructor-assisted learning, the Vital-Online eLearning Center allows you to measure how much you have learned. This helps you gauge your understanding. It also allows your instructor to monitor your progress and if necessary provide additional help.

Interactivity is key to the learning process. In addition to the interactivity that is built into each course through questions, video, and simulated practice, the Vital-Online eLearning Center allows you to communicate with instructors, subject matter experts, and other students through integrated Discussion Groups, Help Desk, and Messaging. For example, to ask your instructor a question while you're taking a course, just click the Help button, and a window pops up so you can visit the Help Desk.

The first time you go to the Main Lobby in a session, a secondary window opens automatically to show you any high priority messages you have and the total numbers of new messages, help desk responses, and new postings to discussion groups to which you are subscribed. When you finish reading the Message Alert information, close the secondary window.

Learning Center Options

Main Lobby

This landing page welcomes you to the Vital Learning eLearning Center. A special introduction will be available for first time users to the site. A tutorial, frequently asked questions, any new messages and establishing your profile will all be able to be accessed at this point. On this page we also announce any new features and courses on the Center as well as a view all the courses Vital Learning offers to its users.

My Courses

At my courses you will view the menu of courses you are authorized to take. You can take only those courses for which you have been given authorization. If your course list does not appear here, either your courses have expired or you have not signed up for courses.

eHelp

Here you can ask questions about course content and get answers from your instructor or a subject matter expert. The Help Desk is private, so other students cannot see your questions. You should receive a response to your question within 24 hours Monday-Friday 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST.

My Messages

This feature allows you to communicate privately with any other Vital-Online eLearning Center users. If you are enrolled in a class, you can determine the user IDs of other students in your class by selecting View Classes in the Useful Information area.

In the Lesson Menu, click on the Assess What You Know topic, then press the Submit button to see a secondary window containing the Pre-Test. You can take each Pre-Test only once. Working With Windows

Some lessons contain buttons that cause the browser to display additional subject matter in a secondary window. Secondary windows sometimes become hidden behind other windows. (This occurs most often with some versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer.) If this happens to you, minimize the other windows until you can see the secondary window. Note: if you're using Windows 95, an icon for the secondary window should appear on the Task bar. Click on the icon to bring the secondary window to the top.

When a secondary window appears, you should interact with it — for example, read the subject matter information or enter a Help Desk request. When you are finished with the secondary window, simply press the Close button to close the window and return to the window containing the lesson.

Taking a Post-Test

To take the Post-Test click on Show What You've Learned , then press the Submit button to see a secondary window containing the Post-Test. You can take the Post-Test as many times as you want. The system records only your most recent test score for each lesson. If you get a low score, you can review the lesson again, then re-take the test until you receive a score you are happy with.
